AI film: Mitsubishi Destinator

I used to work on the pitch for the Mitsubishi Destinator, which was formerly known as the RX Concept. We won it, and that was the first time I ever heard about this car.

As a car enthusiast, I quite like the Destinator’s design, especially its taillights and spoiler. They look cool, futuristic, and ahead of their time. Since most of the time drivers see the tail of the car in front of them, I really enjoy the edgy, “Gundam” vibe of the 10th generation Honda Civic (FC/FK), or the truly retro round shape of the Nissan GT-R Skyline R32, R33, and R34.

Up to 50% duration of the video are AI generated footages. Proofing that we can mix real shots and AI shots together seamlessly.

When I saw the global film of the Destinator, I was impressed. It was pretty in line with our vision and the art direction we had presented in our pitch. Wow! That film inspired me to create this AI-generated piece, which combines AI with real footage from the Destinator’s global film—a hybrid approach that many filmmakers are using today.

Sound design and motion pacing play a vital role in AI-generated footage. They help create the atmosphere, convince audiences of its realness, and make them believe in the world the AI has created. I did pay attention to it, adjusting until it matched with what I wanted.

Most current AI-generated videos aren’t very good at this yet. However, Google’s Veo 3 is taking a different approach by generating sound along with the visuals. I think this is a great move.
