About 1-2 weeks before Tết, I received an offer to design the packaging for The Coffee House’s first packaged coffee product from the Marketing Director. This project excited me, and I looked forward to the briefing meeting. During the briefing, in addition to Phú, there was also Ninh – the CEO of The Coffee House. We discussed some details about the product at that time – it was around late morning, right at the newly opened branch of The Coffee House on Nguyễn Thái Bình, District 1.
The product is traditional drip coffee while The Coffee House is a young, modern brand; I think the design should include both elements. I’m thinking of the typefaces on old signs in Saigon, which are increasingly hard to find in the old commercial areas of districts 1, 3, and 5.
In addition to the self-taken signs, I also referred to the collection of vintage typefaces from the project Lưu chữ – The Lost Type Vietnam.
